All metal will tarnish over time to create a more weathered appearance.

This is usually due to exposure to different environments water, salts and also the oils on your pet’s coat. For example, for those who live close to sea, expect quicker tarnishing compared to someone living inland.

I personally like the antique look on my dog's copper tags however if you don't...

Here are our top tips to restore your tags to its original appearance:

  • MILD TARNISH

    1. Use polishing pad provided (white square) or fine steel wool to lightly brush away superficial imperfections (finger prints, loose dirt, dust).

  • SEVERE TARNISH

    FOR BRASS & ALUMINIUM:

    1. Apply a thick layer of tomato sauce (yes, you read that right) on the tag.
    2. Leave for 2-5 minutes. The acid in tomatoes will help remove the tarnish. Check on the tag every minute until the tag is reasonably clean.
    3. Gently wash with warm water and dish soap
    4. Allow to dry.
    5. Use fine steel wool or polishing pad to remove stubborn and/or small residue areas of tarnish.
    5. You may find the black ink fading overtime. This may be darkened with a household sharpie. It will fill in the missing ink. Wipe the excess off straight away, otherwise it will stain the tag.

    FOR COPPER:
    1. Use polishing pad or fine steel wool to brush away the corrosion.
    2. If black ink fades, proceed with step 5 in above instructions to fill in the missing ink.
